This Privacy Policy describes how Private Vault (“the App”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the App. Private Vault is designed to store your files privately. Your content is stored locally on your device, and optional iCloud Drive backup/sync is available if you enable it.
1. Summary
- Your files (photos, videos, and other items you add) are stored locally on your device.
- If you enable iCloud Drive backup/sync, your encrypted vault files are stored in your personal iCloud Drive in the App’s iCloud container.
- We do not see, access, or upload your private files to our servers. We do not operate any server that stores your vault content.
- We use analytics and crash reporting (Amplitude and Firebase Crashlytics) to understand App performance and improve reliability. These services do not receive your private files.
2. Information You Provide (Your Content)
Private Vault allows you to import files from your device into the App. When you add files:
- The App copies selected files into the App’s private storage on your device.
- The App does not write files back to your Photos library unless you explicitly export them (if the App provides such an export feature).
We do not collect or process the contents of your stored files on our servers.
3. iCloud Drive Backup/Sync (Optional)
If you turn on iCloud Drive backup/sync in the App settings:
- The App stores your vault files in your personal iCloud Drive in the App’s iCloud container (ubiquity container).
- Vault files are encrypted by the App before being stored in iCloud Drive.
- Apple provides the iCloud infrastructure; storage and transmission are handled by Apple under your Apple ID.
- We do not have access to your iCloud Drive data and do not operate or control Apple’s iCloud systems.
If you do not enable iCloud Drive backup/sync, your vault files remain stored only on your device (subject to any device-level backups you configure with Apple).
4. Encryption and Security
Private Vault uses encryption to help protect your vault content. The App is designed so that your encrypted vault files can be stored locally and, if enabled, in iCloud Drive. You are responsible for keeping access to your device secure (e.g., device passcode, Face ID/Touch ID) and for remembering any in-app passcode/PIN you set.
5. Device Permissions
The App may request access to:
- Photos / Media Library: to let you select and import files into the App.
- Face ID / Touch ID (if available): for local authentication to open the App or vault.
These permissions are used only to provide App functionality and are not used to access your content for advertising or tracking.
6. Analytics and Crash Reporting
We use third-party services to help us understand App usage and improve stability:
- Amplitude (analytics)
- Firebase Crashlytics (crash reporting)
These services may automatically collect information such as:
- Device identifiers (for example, an app instance identifier or vendor identifier)
- Device model, operating system version, language/region
- App version, performance signals, crash logs and stack traces
- Basic usage events (for example: screens viewed, “limit reached”, “file added”, subscription flow events, and the number of files stored)
Important:
- We do not send your private files (photos, videos, or documents) to these services.
- We do not send file names, file contents, or file metadata (such as EXIF) to analytics.
- Crash reports are intended to diagnose technical issues and should not include your private vault content.
7. Subscriptions and Payments
If you purchase a subscription or lifetime access:
- Payments are processed by Apple via In-App Purchase.
- We do not receive or store your full payment details.
- Apple may provide us with purchase or entitlement information to unlock Premium features on your device.
8. Tracking and Advertising
Private Vault does not show ads. We do not use data for cross-app tracking and do not use the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA). The App does not request App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission.
9. Data Retention
- Your vault content remains on your device and, if enabled, in your iCloud Drive, until you delete it.
- Analytics and crash data are retained as needed for product improvement and security, and may be subject to the retention policies of our service providers.
10. Your Choices
- You can choose whether to enable iCloud Drive backup/sync.
- You can delete your vault content at any time within the App.
- You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID subscription settings.
11. International Users
If you use the App from the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you may have rights under GDPR, including the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and the right to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below.
12. Children’s Privacy
The App is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, including as we introduce new features. The “Last updated” date will reflect the latest version. Your continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
